A survivor’s story

‘I hope our story can give other parents hope too. Don’t give up.’

Two years and one month after his leukemia diagnosis, Hermen (8) is ready to receive his Flower bead. It is a special milestone for him and his family. His mother, Juul, looks back on the road that brought them here. ‘We were terrified that Hermen was going to die, but the team kept telling us they were confident they could make him better. I will never forget those words.’

A parent’s story

‘At the age of one, our twin daughters were diagnosed with the same rare diagnosis: LCH.’

Nienke and Celine (4) were just one year old when they were diagnosed with langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). Each year, ten to fifteen children in The Netherlands are diagnosed with this disease. ‘How bizarre is it that I have two of them at home? The chances of winning the lottery are higher,’ says their mother Angeliek.
